Ingredients / Benzoyl peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide

A powerful anti-acne ingredient that kills the bacteria behind breakouts. Effective but can be drying and bleaches fabrics.

How to use it

Spot-treat or use as a short-contact wash. Don’t layer it with a retinoid in the same session — it deactivates many of them.

Avoid combining with

Benzoyl peroxide + Retinoid (Vitamin A)

Benzoyl peroxide oxidizes and deactivates most retinoids, cancelling their benefit.

Use benzoyl peroxide in the AM and the retinoid at night, or on alternate days.

Benzoyl peroxide + Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid)

Benzoyl peroxide can oxidize vitamin C, reducing its effectiveness.

Apply at different times of day.
