BHA (salicylic acid)

Salicylic acid — an oil-soluble exfoliant that gets inside pores to clear blackheads and breakouts. Ideal for oily, acne-prone skin.

How to use it

Works as a leave-on a few times a week or in a cleanser. Don’t stack with other acids on the same night.

Avoid combining with

BHA (salicylic acid) + Retinoid (Vitamin A)

Retinoid + BHA can over-exfoliate and compromise the barrier.

Alternate nights rather than layering in the same session.

BHA (salicylic acid) + Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid)

Two low-pH actives together can irritate and destabilize each other.

Use at different times of day.

BHA (salicylic acid) + BHA (salicylic acid)

Multiple exfoliating acids in one session over-exfoliate the skin.

Use one exfoliant at a time, a few times a week.

BHA (salicylic acid) + AHA (glycolic/lactic acid)

Combining AHA and BHA in one session can over-exfoliate and irritate.

Pick one per session; limit total exfoliation to a few times a week.
